BIO
Since 2007
Rainer and Elizabeth have been going to Sri Lanka to work with the Pentecostal
Assemblies of Sri Lanka (PAOSL) on a part time basis (about two months
a year). Earlier they had been resident missionaries there from 1988
to 1995. Rainer’s present role is to work with the leadership, to teach
in the ministry training centre as well as to restructure the ministry
training program of the PAOSL. He is also the PAOC representative in
Sri Lanka. Elizabeth has been involved in teaching in women’s seminars
and providing encouragement and support for ministry wives. Beginning
in 2010 they expect to spend an increased amount of in Sri Lanka ministry.
There
are presently 26 local congregations in the PAOSL fellowship. There
is a need for developing more church leaders with a view to planting
new churches. A new ministry training centre is under construction which
will become the hub for PAOSL ministry development and training.
Sri Lanka is a multi-religious country with the majority of the population
being Buddhist (70%). These would be primarily from the Sinhalese ethnic
group. There are also Hindus (15%) who are from the Tamil population.
There are also Christians (8%) and Muslims (7%) from among various ethnic
groupings. Until recently Sri Lanka has been in a civil war which has
left a legacy of over 200,000 displaced people, many of whom have lost
everything. We are working with ERDO to facilitate the distribution
of relief to the refugee camps.
They have three grown children and five grandchildren.
